Oren Leon Shultz Jr 69, of Cedarville, Ca passed away August 19th, 2013, in
mount Ida , Ar surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Known as Leon to family and friends, he began his life on July 9th, 1944 in
Little Rock, Ar to Oren Leon Shultz Sr and Grace Utter Shultz. His parents now
both deceased, we’re long time residents of mount Ida and the road they lived on
was named Shultz Lane, and it is here where Leon decided he would like to live
out the rest of his life watching his family from the west, battle the ticks,
chiggers, and almost seemingly daily snake encounters, at his home in the lake
ouachita forest while he quietly chuckled away. He truly loved his home town
state of Arkansas, and do I dare say… we now do to.
His father Oren Sr moved his family to Banta, ca in the lush agriculture area of
San Joaquin county in 1957 where Oren sr, started a hay trucking business, and
it was here where Leon grew a passion for not just hay trucking, but learning to
buy, sell , and grow hay as well. With the knowledge gained from working hard
with his father from a very young age, after he graduated Tracy high school in
1963. Leon went out on his own and started L .Shultz Trucking.
Extremely hard working, determined, and a dedicated business man, Leon grew his
business from 1 truck to 6 and watched his dream come alive and prosper for 57
Years up until he died. There was nothing this man could not do in a hay truck,
and he truly loved what he did. Always willing to talk ” hay ” no matter where
he was..romantic restaurants, vacation spots, movie theaters, he had a true
gift. Known and deeply respected by his customers and friends, he will leave a
void in the hay industry by the many that loved and worked with him, and for
him.
Leon leaves behind his loving wife of 28 years Connie Cole Shultz. A hard
working country gal , and boy did he meet his match when he met His ” blondie “,
together the two of them ran the hay company, and opened up a bar and resturant
in there hometown of Cedarville named Golden’s .A true sucker for a good songs
on the jukebox, wether it be Johnny cash, charlie pride or the doobie
brothers..you could bet they would be cutting up a rug on the dance floor. they
enjoyed wonderful vacations all over our great country, and we’re true best
friends
He also leaves behind his four loving children, daughter sherece ( colonel
James regenor U.S.A.F ) Colorado springs, Co. Daughter Sheri ( Rob Cockrell )
YeringtonNv ,Son Fred Shultz ( Megan) Alturas, Ca and Daughter Melissa (

morris of Cabot AR, brother Hershel Shultz of Cedarville , Ca, and beloved Aunt

Leon was a lover of life!! he enjoyed a good fried egg sandwich and tomato soup,
forever was searching for the best hueveos rancheros, ruined many good steaks
with ketchup, loved to sneak an unhealthy meal past his wife. Every waitress
was named ” honey or sweetie” .. he loved his country , was a fox news fanatic
..couldn’t resist ” Dances with wolves ” a bit of a rebel at times…. I think
he may have sneaked past a hay scale just a time or two…a jokester, a tease,
larger than life man, who had a huge heart, and could strike up a conversation
anywhere, he made friends from all walks of life. He was a vibrant ,special
,wonderful , amazing , tough man ,who fought hard and defied the odds in
everything he was ever up against. The greatest gift we ever had came from God,
and we called him Dad!!
We would like to say a very special thank you to some of dads dear friends and
family that
Travelled out to see him. Kendall and Naomi Horst , for your daily prayers and
beautiful hymns, we will never forget it. To Alvin Bresciani , for becoming
our adopted uncle and countless rooms at the el dorado , Bill Montgomery for the
great ” Shultz ” stories ,Will and Kim Montgomery for your kindness and support
, Calvin and luvina Albright, for the laughs and armadillo hunts. Corky and
Bud..years of driving and friendship. He loved you guys. To Blane hill..there
are not enough words to express the gratitude we have in everything you have
done not just for dad, but for our family as well…Thank you!!! and to Gino
Carano and the staff at the gold room of the el dorado hotel, truly hospitable
and caring group of people who always went above and beyond to make us
comfortable. And last but not least to Sandra , Renee , Doc and the whole team
at Arkansas Hospice, our angels here on earth. The list is too long to include
everybody who Dad loved.. But you know who you are.
Heaven sure gained an amazing man, and if god was looking for a hay wagon
driver..well he sure called upon the best. So climb in that ol big rig dad, and
start grabbing those gears, go chase those white lines up above., and show god
you have no fears!! We love you ” Pops”
