Jasper Martin Young went to be with the Lord and his beloved daughter, Patricia,
on June 10, 2014.
Jasper was born September 13, 1931 in Durant, Oklahoma to James Mart and Alta
Walton Young. Jasper was preceded in death by his parents, three brother; Buel,
Ruel and Royal Young and sister Esther Lambert, his daughter Patricia “Tricia”
Young, and his two devoted Great Danes, BD and Annie.
Jasper leaves behind his beloved wife of 62 years, Thelma Emery Young, his son
Phillip and daughter-in-law LaDonna from Elm Grove, LA and his daughters Pamela
Vines and son-in-law Jimmy from Amity, AR and Phyllis Selph with her husband
John from Mt Ida. Also, Jasper is survived by seven Grandchildren; Stephen Young
of Houston, TX, Valerie Young Winterton of Bossier City, LA, Stephanie Vines
Lindsey of Glenwood, Christopher Vines of Hot Springs, Tifanie Mullenix of Hot
Springs, Jordan Mullenix of Mt Ida, Garrett Mullenix of Fayettville, and Beth
Selph of Hot Springs. Jasper and Thelma were blessed with seven great
granchildren and innumerable nieces, nephews and cousins and friends. And his
loyal companion, Brody, his rat terrier.
Jasper honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1950 through 1954.
He worked at North American Aviation in the mid to late 50s, then transferred to
the Lockheed Corporation where he helped design the guidance system for the
Polaris, submarine-launched, Inter-Continental Ballistic Missle. In 1971, he
moved from California to his ancestral hometown and owned and ran the Mt Ida
Feed Store for nine years. They then moved to Madill, OK for 18 years and
enjoyed farm and ranch life. In 1995, they moved back to Mt Ida to retire and be
near their children and grandchildren.
Jasper saved untold lives through his unselfish blood donations. He was awarded
a five gallon pin.
Jasper was a loving husband, father and family member. He was unwaveringly loyal
to friends and party, staying in personal contact for decades. His generosity
knew no bounds, sharing his wisdom and time without reservation. He spent
hundreds of hours volunteering at the “Trish House”. To those closest to Jasper,
his penchant for ice cream and coffee was a well known path to his heart.
The Young Family Patriarch, Jasper Martin Young, will be sorely missed and
forever, fondly remembered.
