    Martha Ellen Whisenhunt, age 92, passed away peacefully August 17, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was married to William Doyle Whisenhunt June 11, 1938 in Sims, AR and was the mother of three adult sons, one adult daughter and one infant daughter deceased.
    Born in Sims, AR, May 24, 1922, she was the daughter of Isom and Molly (Summitt) Gibbs of Sims. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Ellen was passionately loved by her family, extended family and friends. She was devoted to the former Evening Light Tabernacle of Mt. Ida which was ministered by her husband for approximately 50 years.
    Besides her husband of 76 years, she is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Bill and JoannWhisenhunt of Mt. Ida, AR, Joe and Kathy Whisenhunt of Hot Springs, AR, and Phil and Kay Whisenhunt of Maumelle, AR, and one daughter and son-in-law: Carolyn and Bob Short of Mt. Ida, AR. She was preceded in death by infant daughter, Devra Ann.
    She was the beloved “Mamaw” to seven grandchildren and their spouses: Renee and Frank Stapleton of Hot Springs, Tracy Roberts of Mt. Ida, William Jeffrey Whisenhunt of Mt. Ida (deceased), Angela Daley of Hot Springs, Blaine and Brooke Whisenhunt of Springfield, MO, Holly and Lyle Hibbs of Hot Springs and TannerWhisenhunt of Maumelle. She was the great grandmother of Chance and Ashley Packard, Drew and Kristi Packard, Jeffrey Steven and Stephanie Jones, Riley Whisenhunt , Brynn Whisenhunt and Jack Hibbs. She was the great-great grandmother of Blakeley Packard, Gage Packard and A.J. Packard.
    She also leaves one surviving sister: Winona Carter of Mt. Ida.
    General visitation will be 8:00 a.m. til 6:00 p.m. on Monday and 8:00 a.m. til 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a private family viewing following. Funeral services are Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Lone Valley Church in Sims which was founded by her grandfather in 1880. Brother Bud Wilburn will officiate. Interment will follow at Barber Cemetery. Arrangements were made under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home. Guest registry is at thorntonfh.com.
