Mr. Paul Don Phillips

Paul Don Phillips, 80, of Mount Ida went home to be with Jesus Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Born February 11, 1934 to Frank and Lemmer Phillips of Story, Paul was married to the love of his life, Maxine, over 60 years. He loved Jesus and possessed an unwavering faith that he imparted to his children–sons Don (Lori) of Jessieville, Mark (Debbie), and Leslie (Karen), and daughter Karen (Keith). He adored his grandchildren: Sarah Beth, Cody, Bethany (Andrew), Hayden, and Garrett and spoiled them rotten.
Having retired from Alcoa after 25 years, he could often be found tinkering with lawnmowers, “wheelin’ and dealin'” at auctions, and searching for the “big one” in the deer woods. Paul was known as one of the biggest-hearted, most giving individuals around who would help anyone in need any way he could. Rarely without a smile on his face, he never met a stranger and often kept people in stitches with his stories. Helping welcome him into Heaven were his sisters: Attie Yeaman, Esther Dillard, Jewel Baker, and Dovie Daves and his brother: Olive Phillips.
In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, he is survived by brothers: Bill and Royal Phillips as well as sisters: Audean Gibson, Christine Mayfield, and Dorothy Brown. Visitation will be Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. at Thorton Funeral Home in Mount Ida with services Monday, December 1, 2014 at 2 p.m., Faith Tabernacle in Mount Ida with Rev. Dennis Anderson officiating and Brother Paul Burke assisting. Pallbearers are: Milton Yeaman, Hank Yeaman, Charlie Jones, Maurice Carr, Gabe Daves, and Mike Price. Honorary pallbearers are: James Boley, Clovis Price, Glen Hatton, Danny Sheets, Larry Carr, Phillip Carr, and Varine Carr. Arrangements are under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home.
