Michael L. Brown, 57, of Mount Ida, AR, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016 in Little Rock, AR. He was born July 24, 1958 in Exeter, California to Leroy H. and Mary K. (Emery) Brown.

Mike had a wonderful, long career beginning over 37 years ago with Allied Telephone which later became Alltel and eventually Windstream. He shared his in-depth knowledge of technology with so many. Mike served as a city councilman for over 10 years.

Most of Mike’s time was spent with his wife, daughters, family and friends. Throughout his life, he enjoyed watching Nascar, dirt track racing, riding motorcycles and dirt bikes and fishing on our beautiful lake. In recent years, he was blessed with many fun times with his grandsons. Mike’s favorite vacation away from home was going to the beaches in Alabama.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, father-in-law Lloyd Scott and brother-in-law Joe Baldwin.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Barbara; daughters Leeann (Adam) O’Neal, Amy Brown (Robby Redleaf); grandsons Trystin O’Neal, Grayson Redleaf and expected Baby O’Neal; sisters Shari (Danny) Brand, Vicki (Duane) Cotnam of Hot Springs; mother-in-law Dortha Scott; sisters-in-law Debbie Baldwin (Roger Davis), Deyon (George) Kostelnik all of Mount Ida and Brenda Mayberry (Jason Tisdale) of Hot Springs.

Mike is also survived by his Uncle Walter Brown of Washington, Aunts Thelma Young of Mount Ida and Josephine Frambes of New Jersey and many wonderful nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Mike was a fun-loving man and was deeply loved. He will be greatly missed by many. No amount of time would have been long enough but his work here was done.

For those who can give, the family would appreciate that blood donations in Mike’s name be made so that others could receive a life-saving gift. Donations can also be made to Vasculitis Foundation P.O. Box 28660 Kansas City, MO 64188

A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 24th 1-4 p.m. at the Mountain Harbour Conference Room. Cremation arrangements were made under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home of Mount Ida, AR. Guest register at www.thorntonfh.com

Mike was one of the nicest men I know. Not long after I lost my Bob, Mike had to come out and check my phone. He was so sympathetic. I really did appreciate his kind words. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with all the family.

I'm so sorry to hear this and my thoughts and prayers will be with the family. I was a classmate of Mike and he was always a fun loving person that could always lift a person's spirits. Unfortunately I haven't been in touch with but a few of my classmates since I left school but I truly hate to hear of his passing because he was such a likeable person and from what I have read a wonderful family man. Again, my thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Very sorry for your loss. Mike was one of the first people I met here in town when he hooked up our phone 18 years ago. Always a smile and a nice word or two before he got back to work fixing whatever was wrong that day.

So, so sorry to hear about Mike. I know it has been a long fight for life and this is not the outcome that we were all praying for. Please know that your family holds a special place in many hearts in our community. Our Mt. Ida class of 1977 will never be the same without our VP, Senior Favorite and #33.

Mike was such a good and compassionate person to whomever he came in contact. He was a friend to my younger brother and treated him with kindness, when others did not. I will always be grateful to him for his understanding and compassion. Mike was always willing to help anyone . This is such a great loss to the community . God bless his soul.

Mike was one of my good friends in school. He was always kind and someone you could count on. It seems like yesterday we where in school having fun and looking forward to the weekend so we could go riding in his white Chevy Chevelle. Thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I was shocked and so very, very sad to read of Mike's passing. He was very special to our family although we never knew him outside his work. When I moved up here 21 years ago to build a new cabin where my family's old vacation home had been, Mike installed a phone for me in the little utility shed where I had my utilities. Then when I had built four walls and a roof, he put the phone in the house. When my daughters moved up here, he installed their phones, and when I added onto my house for my mother, he put in hers. Over the years we needed very few service calls, but he was always friendly and pleasant and we enjoyed his visits. He was our "phone guy" and we will miss him. Blessings to his family--I hope it helps to know how special he was to so many people.
