  • Beverly Ann (Swindle) Campbell of Mount Ida, died July 15, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born November 3, 1932. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Campbell, her parents Sol and Nina Swindle, sister, Jane Whittington, and brother, Dale Swindle SR.

    She is survived by sons Patrick (Marilyn) and Jeffery (Stephen Elbel), nephews, Steve (Sally) Whittington, Joe (Gladys) Whittington, Dale (Maryann) Swindle, Tim (Carole) Swindle and many grand nephews and nieces. She had many close friends and companions she considered family.

    A long time public educator and librarian, Beverly taught at Mount Ida, Caddo Hills, and Lake Hamilton Schools. She served as the librarian for the Montgomery County Library and was an ardent library supporter. Friends and former students remember her fondly.

    As Beverly wished, there will be no service. Memorials may be sent to The Friends of the Montgomery County Library, P.O. Box 189, Mount Ida, AR 71957. Arrangements were made under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home of Mount Ida, AR. Guest register at www.thorntonfh.com

    Ms. Campbell, You meant so much to me. Though you were stuck with me for years because I was always in trouble, you didn't acknowledge it, just treated me kindly and expected my best. Your respect taught me to respect myself. I'll always remember your soothing presence and am thankful for the past few years when we were able to visit. I know you were greeted with, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

    What a wonderful, wonderful lady, teacher, mentor, and friend! Ms. Campbell could be upset with you, discipline you and have the ability to smile and love you, all at the same time. She was truly an awesome person! RIP Ms Campbell, I know you were welcomed home with smiles. Thank you for those years at Norman and Caddo Hills.

    Jeff and Pat: Saw you mom's obit in the newspaper earlier this week. What a shock. Would love to connect with you if nothing other that to express my sympathy. Beverly was a dear friend and gave me to opportunity to be with your family when the two of you were little. I'll miss being able to visit her in Mt. Ida during the holidays and to catch up of all the happenings. My best wishes to both of you! Charles

    Beverly and I began teaching the same year (1972) at the Norman Grade School - she in 6th and I in 4th. She and Jane and I shared many happy times throughout the years remembering stories and laughing over events that happened in the classroom at Caddo Hills. Beverly later gave me financial advice that I continue to be grateful for! Instead of giving a donation to the library, forgive me for purchasing two "leaves" on the fundraising tree at the Old Norman High School in memory of those two wonderful educators who made a positive difference in the lives of every Caddo Hills student they touched.
