  • Gladys Lee Martin Gibbs was born in Scott County, Arkansas near Boles on April 9, 1925, to Preston and Hettie Mae Wood Martin. She was the second of 11 children. She is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Ray Cordell Gibbs, four brothers, William (Infant), Otis, Bobby and Preston, and two sisters, Christine Smith and Jean McDaniel.

    Others preceding her in death were Clyde “Squirt” Hughbanks, a friend and companion of 30 plus years, a grandson, Greg Emery, and four infant great-grandchildren.

    She is survived by Mitzie, her beloved dog, a daughter and two sons, Mary Jane Wilson, Robert and Connie Gibbs, and Jimmy and Teny Gibbs. Surviving grandchildren are Cordell Emery, Steven Emery, Janice Gates, Tisha Ralph, Tara Call, Cody Gibbs, and Kenetha Tubb. She is also survived by 19 great  grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Also surviving her are sisters, Thelma Tiner of Arkansas, Faye Boykin and Helen Simmons of California and Shirley Matlock of Texas.

    Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Ida, AR. Her funeral will immediately follow. Burial will be at the Chant Cemetery in Y city following the funeral.

    Pallbearers are Steven Emery and Cody Gibbs, grandsons, and Aaron Emery, Jacob Ralph, Brayden Ralph, and Logan Call, great grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers are the staff of the Montgomery County Assisted Living and Nursing Home.

    In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First United Methodist Church in Mount Ida or Chant Cemetery in Y City. Arrangements were made under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home of Mount Ida, AR. Guest register at www.thorntonfh.com

    She was such a precious lady. Heaven sure gained an amazing angel. She will be missed but never forgotten. My prayers go out to her family and friends. Rip Mrs.Gladys we love and miss you.
