  • Patrick Henry Egleston, age 93 of Royal, passed away on Friday, October 12th, 2018.He was born on November 17th, 1924, in Montgomery County, to Ethel Mae and Horace Egleston; and was the last survivor of his brothers and sisters: Irma, Irene, Jake, Bill, Charlie, Jack and John.

As part of the “Greatest Generation,” Pat demonstrated his dedication as a Sergeant in the Army Infantry, serving in extensive campaigns in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded a European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars; a WWII Victory Medal; a Good Conduct Medal; and 3 Oversees Bars.

Returning to the US, Pat finished a High School education that the war had disrupted. He later also graduated from Diesel School, in Memphis, TN; and thereafter returned to his Arkansas family farm and farming and logging endeavors. He also learned his craft as a master carpenter and builder from his father, carrying on the family tradition. In December of 1971 Pat was blessed with a wife Mary Ellen and her two daughters. As a farmer, Pat loved tending to his cattle, fruit trees and chicken farm; but also spent countless hours in his workshop, lovingly tooling his bird boxes, rocking chairs, bowls and furniture.

Pat leaves behind his wife, Mary-Ellen Egleston and daughter Mary (his daughter Ellen was deceased 2018) and son-in-law Simon; and his grandchildren Blake, Trevor and Sophia.

They all give heartfelt thanks to St.Vincent’s/Arkansas Hospice, and gratitude for the love and devotion of all healers and caregivers along the way. Pat also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, near and far; and dear neighbors and friends throughout Arkansas.

    Patrick requested no service.

Each in our own way, we lovingly honor this beautiful human being.

We are blessed in our life to have amazing people be a part of our life. That is the way I feel about Uncle Pat. Even though he may not have been my Uncle by blood, he was always my Uncle Pat by heart. He made me feel like I was a very important part of his family. He always had time for family and friends, and made them all feel a sense of importance and caring in his life. I am so blessed to have got to be part of his and Aunt Mary Ellen’s life.

Although I never met Pat, (he was married to my former step-mother Mary Ellen) I heard of him lovingly from several other relatives. I do wish I'd known him, seen some of his carpentry and projects. He sounds like a lovely man and my condolences go out to the whole family for his loss. I'm still looking for half sister Mary, perhaps this sad event will bring an opportunity. God Bless Patrick and his entire family and wide circle of friends.
